Rules and Fees of Walmart Money Card
MoneyCards are good for one year from the first date you activate the card. However, to keep the card active for that first year, you must keep a balance on the card greater than zero. If you maintain a zero balance on the Walmart MoneyCard for 60 days, the card will expire on the 60th day. You cannot reload or renewed if you would allow the card to expire because of lack of funds.
When you mail in your application for a Walmart MoneyCard, you can use the temporary card that you print off of the application form. You can only load this card one time at any participating Green Dot or Walmart store. The minimum load amount for a temporary card is $20 and the maximum amount is $500 or if you get the temporary card at the Walmart store after filling out an application, you can load up to $1,500 if you load the money from a check that you are cashing. However, after your application is received and your identity is verified, you can reload the card any time until you receive your permanent card.
The Walmart MoneyCards do have some fees associated with different types of transactions. When you first request issuance of the Walmart MoneyCard, you pay a on-time fee of $3. If you reload the card at a participating Walmart without cashing a check to reload the card with, you pay a $3 fee.
If you reload the MoneyCard with a Green Dot or Walmart MoneyPak Card, the fees will vary by each retailer. ATM transaction fees are $2 per transaction for domestic and international transactions. However, additional fees may result if you aren’t using a Walmart owned ATM. If you need to check your card balance at an ATM, it will cost you $1. If you report your card lost or stolen, you will be charged $3 for a replacement card and a rush delivery charge for your personalized Walmart MoneyCard costs $20.
Walmart MoneyCards have a monthly fee of $3 per month associated with each account. However, if you load a minimum of $1,000 per month on your card, for the next month after the $1,000 transactions, the monthly fee of $3 is waved.
